Designing for Mama 

I have gained wonderful stories and pieces of wisdom from my years of being a traditional florist. Wisdom that only comes from working in the service industry and serving people. Florists are like bar tenders we hear and see it all. Our profession deals with all aspects of life. We often say from Birth to the Grave. I have hours and days of memories of people and their stories. Most stories are filled with tears, tears of joy. The stories are one of the things I miss the most in this new journey. Leave it to my Mama to be the one this week to bring tears of joy.

Often when people call a florist to place an order, they say “I would like to order an arrangement”. We reply with “what kind of an arrangement”? Their response would nearly always be “a pretty one”. I had the privilege to work with a great lady who had the best come back to their “pretty one”. Without missing a step she would say “I am sorry Pretty was yesterday we are all sold out”. She would say it in such a way most customers didn’t know how to respond. Once someone even said “Oh I am sorry, when will you be getting more in”. Don’t you just love people.

My Mama…..Mama…Mama. Talking to Mama yesterday, she said I am thinking…… I would like to place an order with you for a wreath. Let me stop right there and say, Really?? Mama?? Mama dose not place an order with me all she has to do is say, this is the wreath I want. I stop her and say, “Mama!!!! What wreath do you want? And she says….A Pretty ONE!!!!  I am not going to lie I wanted to say so bad, “I am sorry I am all sold out of Pretty, today is just Crappy”. My Mama!!
